Bio

Miguel Henriques Abreu is graduated in Medicine, University of Porto in 2007 and PhD in Medical Sciences from the same Institution in 2016.

He completed his residence training in medical oncology at Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Porto (IPO-Porto) in 2013, become Medical Assistant in the same Institution in 2014 and Consultant in medical oncology since 2022, being dedicated to the treatment of breast, gynaecological and sarcoma patients. Since 2023, he is the Medical Oncology Coordinator of the Sarcomas’ Unit.

In clinical research field he was the coordinator of the clinical oncology research group of the Research Center of IPO-Porto, and participated in 70 clinical trials, being principal investigator in 8 and National Coordinator in 1. He is an active member of important research groups including the EORTC groups for gynaecological cancers, breast cancer and for soft tissue and bone sarcoma and the SOLTI group and is the Portuguese representative of the European Organisation for Treatment of Trophoblastic Diseases. He is author and co-author of more than 30 peer-reviewed articles, including book chapters (h-index=14; i10-index=18; citations: 1188), and invited reviewer of important journals like The Breast, European Journal of Cancer, European Journal of Cancer Prevention and Scientific reports on nature research journal. In the academic field he collaborates in the Master in Oncology, Master and PhD in Palliative care in the University of Porto and participated as Arguer and Supervisor of many theses.

In his social aspect, he is the actual President of the Scientific Council of the Portuguese Society of Oncology, the past President of the same Society (2022-2024) and was member of the assembly of representatives of the Portuguese Medical Council.
