Basic Life Support Training for Católica Staff at the Lisbon Campus

Friday, October 30, 2026 - 14:33

The initiative took place at the Palma de Cima Campus in Lisbon and was aimed at staff members of Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Participants acquired essential knowledge and skills to respond to a cardiac arrest and use an Automated External Defibrillator.

A trainer from the Centre for Resuscitation and Emergency Care (CRE), together with faculty members from the Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde e Enfermagem (FCSE) and Escola de Enfermagem – Porto, delivered certified training in Basic Life Support (BLS) with Automated External Defibrillation (AED) at the Palma de Cima Campus of Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

The aim was to prepare participants to recognise an emergency, call for help appropriately and immediately initiate resuscitation procedures, including the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. In the event of a cardiac arrest, the swift response of those present is crucial to the victim's chances of survival.

By providing this training to University staff, the initiative contributes to a safer campus that is better prepared to respond to emergencies. Every trained individual becomes an active link in the response to a critical situation, whether in the workplace or in everyday life.

This initiative reinforces the commitment of CRE, FCSE and Escola de Enfermagem – Porto to promoting health literacy and empowering the community, contributing to a more informed and effective response in emergency situations. It also extends the training expertise of these academic units to another University campus, directly benefiting the academic community.
