Professors from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa are part of the coordinating committee of the first book on the History of Nursing in Portugal (1143-1988), which is already available in stores. This editorial milestone represents an unprecedented contribution to the recognition of Nursing as a scientific and historical discipline in Portugal. The book, organized by the Portuguese Society of Nursing History, headquartered at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, features the participation of Constança Festas, a professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing, and Carlos Subtil, also a professor at the same faculty, both members of the Coordinating Committee and authors of chapters. The book is intended for an audience interested in the subject, aiming to be an educational tool and facilitator for incorporating this knowledge into the training of new generations of nurses and their professional practice, while promoting the dissemination of knowledge of the history of nursing from its beginnings to the end of the 20th century.

The book presentation took place on March 8, St. John of God’s Day, the patron saint of Nurses, in Viana do Castelo.
