Licenciado em enfermagem, Mestre em administração e gestão da educação e Doutorado em Enfermagem pela Universidade católica Portuguesa.

Trabalhou predominantemente nos cuidados intensivos, e como membro do departamento de qualidade. Especialista em Enfermagem Comunitária, envolvido em vários projetos de investigação nacionais e internacionais sobre nutrição, úlceras de pressão e na prevenção e tratamento de feridas em geral.

Atualmente Professor Auxiliar convidado na Universidade Católica Portuguesa, desde 2009.

É investigador integrado do Centro de Investigação Interdisciplinar em Saúde (CIIS) na plataforma Nursing Research Platform, sendo responsável pelo Wounds Research Lab (WRL).

Diretor da Escola de Enfermagem (Porto) desde 2022.
