Amélia Ferreira, a faculty member at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Chief Nurse at the Matosinhos Local Health Unit, took part in the National Meeting of Chief Nurses of the Portuguese National Health Service (SNS), held on 10 July at the Santa Maria Local Health Unit in Lisbon. The meeting was attended by the Portuguese Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins.

Throughout the morning, the Minister of Health followed the discussions, listening to the concerns and contributions presented by Chief Nurses from Local Health Units across the country. The meeting was also attended by the President of the Portuguese Order of Nurses, Luís Filipe Barreira, who participated in the opening session and the discussion on the main challenges facing the nursing profession and the National Health Service.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to exchange experiences, reflect on the challenges faced by healthcare institutions and discuss solutions and best practices to strengthen collaboration among nursing leaders while promoting the continuous improvement of healthcare quality within the Portuguese National Health Service.

Amélia Ferreira’s participation highlights the active role of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in key national forums that contribute to the development of the nursing profession and the future of healthcare in Portugal.
