The Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa hosted, on 22 May, the 1st International Congress of the Portuguese Society of School Health Nursing, an initiative that brought together professionals, researchers and students to discuss the current challenges of health promotion in school settings.
Under the theme “Health Promotion and Equity in Educational Contexts: Global Challenges and Local Responses”, the congress took place at the Carvalho Guerra Auditorium, on the Porto Campus, also marking the 40th anniversary of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion. Throughout the day, the event encouraged reflection on the role of School Health Nursing in building healthier, more inclusive and sustainable educational communities.
The scientific programme included moments of debate, sharing of experiences and presentation of best practices, reinforcing the importance of school health professionals in promoting health literacy, disease prevention and equity in access to care. The congress also highlighted the need for coordinated local responses to the social, technological and educational challenges currently shaping school environments.
Aimed primarily at professionals working in School Health, with a particular focus on nurses, the event provided a space for interdisciplinary dialogue and scientific updating, contributing to the strengthening of collaborative networks and to the recognition of School Health Nursing in Portugal and internationally.
